How to...

Assemble a hanging production basket with a green plastic bag :

The plastic bag keeps the sun and wind from drying out the soil and helps retain humidity longer.

1- Place the bag inside the basket.

2- Fill the basket almost to the edge with slightly humid soil.

3- Pierce the bottom of the basket with a knife after every 3rd wire to ensure that the basket will drain properly and prevent mold from forming.

4- Make incisions in the plastic with a knife in every 2nd or 3rd square depending on your production deadline. Plant the flowers closer together for faster results. (To save time, make all incisions to the basket before you putting in the flowers).

5- Place your cuttings (example : 288 cells or 809 cell-pack) at an angle, with the roots pointing down to reduce water leakage.

6- To finish, plant the flowers approximately 1” from the edge to prevent the sun and wind from drying the roots. When you plant flowers on the top or sides, place them in such that they fill the empty spaces on the lower row.

Install your hook.

Additional information:

Add approximately one tablespoon of slow release 14-14-14 fertilizer.
Before hanging the baskets, water them to check soil compaction around your plants. Any type of flower will be attractive. The choice is yours.

Suggestions :

  • Insert the longest hanging flowers in the bottom squares.
  • Insert the shorter, more voluminous flowers in the centre squares.
  • Insert the shorter hanging flowers on the top, near the edge.
  • Insert the tallest standing flowers on top, in the middle.
